The Australian Youth Council consists of 4 young Australians who have come together to improve the outcomes of young people’s involvement in the media.
Max (age 16, Brisbane), Danica (16, Cairns), Amy (17, Mt. Isa) and Adrian (15, Melbourne), along with their teachers Prue Miles and Michael Dezuanni,
came together in 2009 to participate in workshops regarding the representation of young people in media. Since then they have also participated in
discussions, created short videos and formed specific objectives to share with the Global Youth Council.
The group has a particular focus on the representation of teens in media, specifically news and current affairs. They also believe that the progress they make here in Karlstad will translate to their own communities back home. All of the members are avid media users; all of them use Facebook, mobile phones and have a passion for young people’s rights to media access and proper usage.
“What I hope to gain from the summit is a better understanding of other cultures and the similarities between international and Australian media.” – Max Perdon, AUS.
