Why will you participate in World Summit 2010?
Jon-Erik Egerszegi, Head of MediaCenter for Västerbottens county
Why are you attending the World Summit 2010?
- I work with distribution of film and media and with training for educators and other professionals who are dealing with young people for their jobs in schools. We work on the Västerbotten region and deal with demands from both regional and national levels.
Why do you think that the knowledge of today's media differs between children and adults?
- If we speak of media in general, many young people live surrounded by it, unlike many adults, especially when it comes to social media. Social media focuses a lot on entertainment, and that does not give youth a structured awareness of how media can be used in a larger, perhaps in a more practical context. Social media is today a natural part of young people's life, while adults do not always see the possibilities it offers.
How do you think the WS will contribute in making a difference?
- I think you go to the World Summit to see what's going on. It is both a source for inspiration and a meeting place. Unfortunately, I do not think that the World Summit in itself brings changes, but it is an important part of a broader context. It might raise awareness about the possibilities that are out there.

Ingela Ek, Botkyrka municipality
Why are you attending the World Summit 2010?
- I am looking forward to the event as an opportunity to gain new insights and new knowledge which I can take with me and also to share with others my work as developmental educator.
Why do you think that the knowledge of today's media differs between children and adults?
- Overall, I'm not so sure there are such huge differences. I think it varies as much between different adults as it varies between different children and young people. We all live in a digital society today and therefore it is important that, regardless of age or other criteria, everyone gets the same chance and support for absorbing and filtering in this context of constant digital and multimedia development. That is an important matter of equality!
How do you think the WS will contribute in making a difference?
- I am convinced that the focus on these issues for several days and from many different angles will make us all better prepared to pass on all the excitement and development we have around us today, and all the interesting challenges ahead of us.
Why will you participate in World Summit 2010?
Cecilia Broberg, Teacher in Graphic Communications and Photography at NTI-Gymnasiet, Stockholm
Why are you attending the World Summit 2010?
- I work as a high school teacher to a media program and will be attending the WS with Birgitta Johansson, my program director, in order to acquire further
training in new media and youth. Partly because we ourselves should have knowledge when we are planning future media program (which are uncertain in the
GY11-closure plans) and also to understand our students better.
Why do you think that the knowledge of today's media differs between children and adults?
- Probably because the children for the first time are the experts and the natives of an area in which no knowledge can be inherited from their parents.
Parents are just immigrants in the new media world. This allows an uncertainty from the adults' direction and in the case that they are not willing to
learn, they will never understand the media as such.
How do you think the WS will contribute in making a difference?
- Just to train adults in the potential of new media and children and ensure the quality of what is going to be built up. The children are already on the train, so to speak.

Helena Danielsson, Högskolan Dalarna
Why are you attending the World Summit 2010?
- Networking, updating knowledge about the field – both Swedish and internationally. Important meeting place that I heard about a lot and wanted to join- but so far unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to participate. It'll be FUN!
Why do you think that the knowledge of today's media differs between children and adults?
- Well, I think it's always been like that. The fact that you live with different opinions about the benefits that the media world (media materials in different contexts and by different types) may have in our lives. My attitude towards young people’s use of media is humble. Raising my curiosity and putting me on track is important. They quickly see the details of media content and can use technology in a way that the older generation (in general) does not find as obvious. I think it is important to realize that even adults have their specific media literacy (in my case, film education, among others) – which can be more open and inspiring for children / young people. The combination of educational / didactic understanding is what attracts me the most. More in-depth research is needed. A conference like this can broaden and deepen our view of it...
How do you think the WS will contribute in making a difference?
- We will see ... Exchange of practical experiences, research results, ideas – in knowing that you are not alone with that belief and desire - is always of great value...

Why are you attending the World Summit 2010?
- Several reasons: education, knowledge, networking, fun to visit the great events taking place in Karlstad, the Consumer Agency is represented - it is part of "our" issues.
frågor.
Why do you think that the knowledge of today's media differs between children and adults?
- The children who grew up in a welfare society know nothing; the media is an integral part of their everyday lives. Many children also have less respect for the technology than adults do. Adults, who have not been breast-fed with the commercial media have to learn again, requiring a vested interest to overcome obstacles. However, people with greater life experiences can evaluate media content and messages better than children do.
How do you think the WS will contribute in making a difference?
- It's always good to bring people together for meetings, dialogues and mobilizations for change. What will come out concretely is hard to say.
Why will you participate in World Summit 2010?
Victor Lindgren,
Film i Västerbotten
Why are you attending the World Summit 2010?
- To learn more about young people's media habits and daily Internet use. I work hard on these issues in Sweden, mostly with students and teachers, therefore, so it will be interesting to listen to and discuss with the outside world. Hopefully I will get a bit wiser and bring some wisdom….
Why do you think that the knowledge of today's media differs between children and adults??
"Children are one people and they live in a foreign country". I usually think and then start thinking from there. Of course, adults and adolescents’ consumptions and participations are different from each other because they have different interests and needs. Concerning the difference of media knowledge between adults and young people, I do not know if that is the case, because it is most likely that the youth have grown up with all the media while the adults have migrated into them. More traditional media are owned by adults, and knowledge of them may not be as large within youth. I think knowledge about the media depends on who deals with the media and the interests of the consumer. As the Internet looks a little different, it depends on the fact that young people can influence and create the Internet on their own. The Internet has thus become a more democratic medium, but difficult to censor and control.
How do you think the WS will contribute in making a difference?
- Very difficult to say whether the World Summit will make a difference or not. I hope that all the decision-making people working with children and the youth will start understanding the digital world as it is and adapt and evolve with it. The school cannot be an institution beyond this world. Meeting is good, talking is better and implementing even better, I hope the WS can help us do that.
